Wassailing

Sunday, 30 January @ 1:00 pm

Prestwich, M45 7QJ

About the event

Happy New Year from all of us at Incredible Edible Prestwich & District.

Wassailing is an ancient British custom of visiting your apple orchard, reciting incantations and singing to the trees. We’ll also hang toast on the branches and add a drop of cider to the roots (Don’t ask!). The idea is to promote a good harvest in the autumn. For Incredible Edible, it’s also a chance to get the community together and share food and drink around a nice warm fire.

As Incredible Edible has an orchard at Philips Park, we’re holding a Wassail this Sunday January 30th 2022 at 1pm to 3pm. Meet at the barn, which is near the children’s playground. There will be singing, hot drinks, snacks, a fire and fun. We’ll also be selling local honey and a few chutneys

On the day, please bring empty pots, tins or pans, with sticks to bang them with. The noise is all part of the ceremony. Song sheets will also be provided.

We hope to see you there.
