Let’s Talk Loneliness

#LetsTalkLoneliness is a government campaign designed to tackle loneliness throughout our society. Incredible Edible Prestwich is playing it’s part and here’s what John (name changed), a new volunteer, said about it:

“Going to Incredible Edible and meeting people in a similar situation gave me a break from thinking about my problems and I know it’s good for my health. It’s also peaceful and there’s some solitude when I get down to gardening.”

#LetsTalkLoneliness

At Incredible Edible Prestwich our regular sessions throughout the area help people stay in touch and make friends. Not only that, but people can help us just at our bigger events such as Apple Day in October and Wassailing in January.   Either way, it’s a good route to take if you’re feeling lonely.

Dave joined us a few years ago and said, “once I retired I gave Incredible Edible a try, not knowing what to expect. Over time, I became more involved and have met so many lovely people as a result. It’s been great!”

Background

Incredible Edible Prestwich were recently awarded a grant from the Local Connections Fund to tackle loneliness in our community.

We are part of over 840 charities, community groups and organisations across England to benefit from the fund.

The Local Connections Fund is designed to help local organisations bring people and communities together to help tackle loneliness and social isolation.

The fund is made up of £2m from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and £2m from The National Lottery Community Fund.

The announcement comes one year on from Government relaunching ‘Let’s Talk Loneliness’ campaign.

This week the Loneliness Minister, Baroness Diana Barran, launches Tackling Loneliness Network Action Plan.
