About the project
A group of volunteers living on or near Brooklands Road and Links Crescent in Prestwich have created the Community Herb Garden. It lies on a small piece of unused land that separates the two streets.
It was started in 2018 as the neighbours were keen to improve their local environment and help create a greater sense of community.
Passers-by can stop for a chat and help themselves to a few fresh herbs while they are at it, or just enjoy the sight of the herbs on what was once a piece of unloved overgrown grass.
Incredible Edible Prestwich & District has been delighted to support the group and in 2018 helped build three raised beds for herbs, with grant funding from Bury Council’s The Pitch.
In March 2021 the group also received community funding for seeds from Councillor Richard Gold. Future plans include creating 2 more raised beds for edible flowers and a wildflower meadow.
As the beds need very little maintenance, meeting dates are held when necessary.
