What’s happening at Radcliffe?

A huge hello from the Belmont site at Radcliffe. Spring is springing and we are over the moon about it. Let’s update you about what’s been going on and what the plans are for this year.

During the winter, on the drier days, we’ve spent time clearing more areas to pop in benches, create more planting beds and flatten an area to build our polytunnel. This was successfully constructed a couple of weeks ago – physically not too challenging, however mentally exhausting!

New polytunnel at Radcliffe

Now the polytunnel is nearly constructed, we’re aiming to get it set up for seed planting which will be a welcome addition to the site and aids in our plans to get more planting done and be more independent and sustainable.

Clearing more overgrowth has revealed still further how big the site really is. Lots of hard work and thought has gone into planning the planting for the beds we have at the moment and we’re looking forward to getting some good growth this year. In particular, tidying the herb spiral and making a medicinal bed full of plants, flowers and herbs well known for their medicinal properties along with providing great colour and fragrance for the site and pollinators.

Site plan at Radcliffe

The site continues to attract new volunteers and passers by which we are delighted to see and welcome. With the additional seating and more tasks being created for those less able to physically exert themselves we are encouraged to see absolutely anyone on the site, it is as we hoped becoming a proper community site.

Raised beds at Radcliffe

As the daylight hours become longer, we will get our Wednesday evening sessions back up and running. This will be every Wednesday between 5 – 7pm, ideally for a post work wind down and enjoying the lovely evenings to come. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
